Registering A Domain

Last Updated: Jul 12, 2016 02:57PM CDT

Since the domain name should legally be in your name, we do not register domain names on behalf of our partners. We usually recommend that you register the domain through a registrar like GoDaddy or NameCheap, which will cost around $13 annually. However, you may use any domain registrar that you like.

When you register your domain name, do not select any other products (like hosting or e-mail accounts). If you plan to keep your site long term, you may want to register the domain for multiple years at a discount. If you only register your domain for one year, you will need to renew it annually.

Tip: We highly recommend that you set your domain on: 1) registrar lock: this keeps people from trying to transfer your domain to their registrar; and 2) auto renewal: this will ensure that your domain name doesn't expire due to non-payment. You can set both of these settings at your registrar.

Once you are ready to launch your website, please read our article titled "How do I launch my website?". We typically need a few days notice for this. If you have any further questions, please feel free to call our Support team at 1-800-409-6631 x2 or send us a message through the Help Center tab in the CMS.
